Samual Hancock's name is also on another item we currently have in inventory, the USIR Receipt for Special Tax, which is datelined Coupeville, Island County, and involves the tax on a stallion kept on Whidbey Island. Items from Island County, Washington Territory are very hard to come by. County seat is Coupeville, on Whidbey Island. In the early days, the friendly Indians there were known as the Siwashes, and the unfriendlies the Haidah. The Island Protective Union Association was formed for defense against the raiding Haidah Indians. 4" x 7-5/8". One split at top fold. Tape temnants at corners, from album mounting.
